Landscaping & Build

Landscaping & Build

Hard and soft landscaping, built in-house by our own team across Brighton, Hove and Sussex.

What makes a garden last isn’t always what you can see.

It’s the sub-base beneath the paving. The drainage falls. The foundations, fixings and construction details that sit behind the finished garden. What makes a garden last isn’t always what you can see. It’s the sub-base beneath the paving. The drainage falls. The foundations, fixings and construction details that sit behind the finished garden. That’s where we put our care, because those details determine how a garden performs in five, ten and twenty years’ time.

Every Brunswick build is delivered by the same small team from groundwork to final planting. No subcontractors, no handovers, no surprises. Ed is on site throughout — designer and builder, not a project manager on the phone.

The work

Hard landscaping, soft landscaping, and the crafts in between.

Every discipline below is carried out by our own team, on your site, by people you'll meet.

Materials

Chosen to look better in year ten than year one.

We specify natural stone, high-performance porcelain, FSC hardwood, hand-finished bricks and specimen plants sourced from growers we trust. Nothing lowest-bid, nothing from a skip-pile.

Good materials cost more up front. Over a life of use, they reward the decision many times over — in how they wear, how they weather, and how the garden feels underfoot a decade on.

A build, week by week

How a Brunswick build unfolds

Typical programmes run five to seven weeks on site. Ed provides a written programme before work begins and updates it honestly as the project progresses.

  1. 01

    Week 1

    Groundwork

Site set-up, excavation, sub-bases, services and drainage. Unseen work that sets up everything above it.

  2. 02

    Weeks 2–3

    Hard landscaping

Walls, paving, steps and structures — the bones of the garden taking shape. Every joint, level and falls checked twice.

  3. 03

    Week 4

    Timber & joinery

Fencing, decking, pergolas and screens, plus conduits and sleeves for lighting and irrigation.

  4. 04

    Week 5

    Planting & lawns

Topsoil prep, planting to plan, turf or seeding, mulching. Plants put in at the right moment to establish well.

  5. 05

    Week 6

    Lighting & finish

Low-voltage lighting commissioned, scenes set, final adjustments, site fully cleaned down.

  6. 06

    After handover

    Aftercare

A tailored care guide and a follow-up visit after the first growing season to check planting is establishing as it should.

How it feels to have us working in your garden

Having a garden built is a lot to live with — we take that seriously. Sites are cleaned down at the end of every day, not every week. Access routes, parking and skip placement are agreed before the first van arrives.

Neighbours are considered, noise is managed, and dust is kept to where it needs to be. Brunswick projects happen on terraced streets and semi-detached homes as often as on country plots, and that context matters.

Ed is on site daily. If you have a question, you ask him directly.

Ed and his team worked off plans we had drawn up for a complete redesign of our Garden. I would highly recommend Ed, for his depth of experience, work ethic and standard of work, which was all excellent. The project lasted a month and he was always on site on time and worked tirelessly. They built new pathways, laid terracing, built a brick bbq, and even a new side lean to shed. Most importantly we loved the results!!

Common questions

Things clients often ask

How long does a typical garden build take?

Most projects take between 2–6 weeks depending on scope and complexity. Larger projects with significant structural work may take longer. Ed will provide a clear timeline before work begins and update you as the programme progresses.

Do you handle all trades in-house?

Yes. Our team covers all aspects of hard and soft landscaping — paving, decking, carpentry, brickwork, planting, turfing. For specialist services such as electrical connections or gas lines, we work with trusted, vetted tradespeople we've partnered with for years.

Can you build from a design I already have?

Yes — we regularly build from designs produced by other designers or architects. Ed will review the drawings, flag anything that needs resolving before work starts, and provide a clear quote against the documented scope.

What happens if there's bad weather?

We plan for the British weather. Some delays are inevitable with outdoor work, but we communicate proactively and adjust schedules to minimise disruption. Quality is never compromised by rushing — we won't lay paving on saturated ground or plant into waterlogged soil.

How disruptive is a build to day-to-day life?

Less than you might expect. We agree working hours, parking, skip placement and access routes up front. Sites are kept tidy at the end of each day and dust, noise and mess are actively managed — particularly important on terraced streets and semi-detached properties.

Do you offer guarantees on your work?

Absolutely. All hard landscaping comes with a workmanship guarantee, and we stand behind every project we complete. Specific guarantee terms — along with supplier-backed product guarantees on materials — are detailed in your project proposal.

Do you provide aftercare for planting?

Yes. We hand over a tailored care guide for new planting and schedule a follow-up visit after the first growing season to check establishment. Ongoing maintenance packages are available if you'd like us to look after the garden long-term.
